Happy 2017!

Happy 2017!

At the beginning of every year, I choose two “evolutions”.  For 2016, I vowed to reclaim the moments that get lost in the swirling current of my life and spend them doing more things that bring me joy.  I also decided to challenge any excuses that would prevent me from venturing outside my comfort zone where new and life enriching experiences were waiting.  Like each year before, they helped promote growth in my life.

This year….

1. I will embrace change

Last year delivered many life-altering changes to my world and the worlds of those closest to me.  Some changes brought people together, renewed faith and hope and planted promising seeds of love, health and happiness.  Others imposed life-path changes, demanded fears be faced, transformed unhealthy relationships and brought balance and closure to troublesome places.  In each case, life never failed to illuminate how much better things had become in the wake of the change.

This year, I will proactively instigate change wherever and whenever I feel doing so will increase the level of joy and happiness in my world.  I will champion more of my growth by fully accepting the discomfort those changes may bring because I know they will ultimately improve the quality of my life.

2. I will be thankful

Last year’s changes were plentiful but some stood out above and beyond the rest.  They included the gift of meeting someone wonderful, delivery of another Grandson, challenges to my work/life balance, the passing of an old friend and being given a fresh notebook to continue writing my life’s story.  Each change in my world, happy or sad, led me to a better place than where I was before.

This year, I will be thankful for all of the changes that come because I know each will enrich my life in some way.  This year, I will have even more to be thankful for than I already am today.

I hope 2017 brings you many changes that place you ever closer to the happy life you truly imagined you would live.

Happy 2016!

On the first day of 2015, I promised myself two “evolutions”. I chose to be true to myself by being mindful and embracing each moment of my life. Once again, they helped me evolve.

This year, I have chosen two….

1.  I will reclaim my moments

Last year felt like a whirlwind. In an instant, it was February. Moments later, I was mowing the lawn and picking plums. Moments after that, I was raking leaves and carving pumpkins. A moment later, the tree was lit, the gifts had been opened and it was New Year’s Eve.

This year, I will not have to say, “I don’t have time” because I will reclaim my lost moments and spend them doing more of the things that add joy to my life.

2. I will have no excuses

Last year, I was still holding onto a belief that I did not have time to do anything for myself. Yet, I managed to find time to try some things I have always wanted to try. It was fun and I learned more about myself.

This year, I defy my excuses by continuing to step out of my comfort zone where more new experiences await.  I read somewhere that, “Today’s moments are tomorrow’s memories.” Today, I will have as many fun moments as I can because they are a gift to me now and a gift to the me of tomorrow.

May 2016 bring more love, joy and happiness to your life

Happy 2015!

I don’t make New Year’s “Resolutions”.  I make New Year’s “Evolutions”!  I am an evolving being and consciously choose to incorporate things that contribute to my well-being in life.  I have chosen two this year….

1. I will be true to myself.

I ended 2014 with some hard-knock lessons that gave me a better understanding of who I am, how I want my life to be and what is most important to me.  I sacrificed much of my time and sanity last year with the noble intentions of supporting the “greater good”.  I rarely saved enough of myself to step back and recharge my batteries.  I wasn’t the best person I could have been because I was always running on empty.  As a result, I lost precious time that should have been spent on the things I value most in life.  This year, I choose to be true to myself by being mindful of how I spend my time and by giving myself as much love and support as I give to others.

2. I will live in The Now.

“The Past” is just our memory’s poor recollection of something that is already gone.  Our view of The Past is always changing because it depends on how we are feeling at the time we’re recalling it.

“The Future” lives in our imagination.  We imagine what The Future will look like and how we will get there but more often than not we find ourselves far away from where we expected to be wondering how we got there.

The only thing we truly own is time and that time exists solely in the moments defined by what is happening in our life right now!  This year, I choose to live in The Now by staying present and fully embracing every moment it brings.

May 2015 be the beginning of the best years of your life

Why I Stopped Selling My Time for a Living | Good Sense

12 Laws of Life

I came across this by accident and it really moved me. It seems to be written by Tom Hoobyar (The Street Smart CEO) who used to be a Silicon Valley CEO turned life guru after realizing his career was taking a toll on his health.

In a nutshell:

  1. Self-management and people skills are the keys to your success and happiness.
  2. You are at the center of your universe. Stay there!
  3. What you think about most is what you get.
  4. You make your habits and then your habits make you.
  5. Guilt enslaves you. Responsibility liberates you.
  6. “Obligations” are a fraud.
  7. Expect less from others and more from yourself.
  8. Nobody wakes up in the morning choosing to be the villain.
  9. There is no “happily ever after” in the real world.
  10. There is a Hell, and it starts early.
  11. You can create paradise on Earth. Many people do.
  12. It’s never too late to change.
